Order your restaurant salads with the dressing on the side. Pouring your own dressing could actually result in adding unnecessary calories to your salad. Instead, dip your fork in the dressing and then skewer a forkful of salad. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how perfectly this works!
We have an option for how to deal with the everyday irritants of life (late trains, difficult bosses, miscommunications). You can either allow them to make you miserable and possibly ruin your whole day, or you can shrug it off and move on.
Big meals right before bed are no conducive to a good night’s sleep. Instead, small snacks before bed can be helpful, especially foods like turkey and milk that contain tryptophan. And avoid alcohol. Even though it can induce sleepiness, the effect wears off and you’ll not have restful sleep.
Don’t make the mistake of putting off appreciating what you’ve already got until a later date. Make a list entitled “Achievements and Successes.’ Keep this list open and ongoing. Get into the habit of paying regular attention to your successes, no matter how small they may be!
Using affirmations is a great way to boost your self esteem. Get into the habit of continually saying and thinking positive statements to yourself. Allow yourself to experience the positive feelings about your statements.
Break out of your routine and do something different. Take a drive into the country, go to a museum, or check out that new café across town. New adventures improve your mood and your health.
Don’t isolate yourself from the world or you’ll miss out on that all important interaction with your fellow man. Make sure that the majority of your social interaction doesn’t occur on the computer. Meet a friend for coffee or have lunch with colleagues rather than eating alone at your desk
Reduce the stress and heighten your commuting experience by listening to audio books or podcasts. Who wouldn’t rather absorb useful and entertaining info from a soothing narrator instead of choking your steering wheel?
